THE ROOTS OF ALERASIA: A BOND WITH THE EARTH
Alerasia comes to life from the union of the names of Aleramo and Adelasia, protagonists of one of the most romantic and fascinating legends in Italian history.
Their love story begins with the birth of Aleramo near Acqui Terme, the son of a noble Saxon couple, and continues with his growth as a squire and then a brave knight at the court of Emperor Otto I of Saxony. When Aleramo falls in love with Adelasia, the emperor's favorite daughter, the two young lovers are forced to flee to live out their forbidden love.
After years of adventures and sacrifices, Aleramo manages to win Ottone's heart by saving his nephew during a decisive battle. As a sign of forgiveness and gratitude, Ottone grants Aleramo the title of marquis and as much land as he can ride on horseback in three days. During this epic ride, Aleramo uses a brick ('mun' in Piedmontese) to shoe his horse, giving rise to the name Monferrato. This story symbolizes determination, cunning and a deep connection with the land, values that have become the heart of Alerasia.
